Erica Vasquez is one of 890 students who recently graduated from Everest Academy with the skill and ability to read and write one or more languages in addition to English fluently.
To recognize Vasquez’s and her peers’ high level of proficiency in these languages, they received the California State Seal of Biliteracy and proudly wore a beautiful medallion that signified their accomplishments during their individual graduation ceremonies. The Seal of Biliteracy is an award, a statement of accomplishment, given to students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.

Everest Academy Provides Students with Opportunities to Dual Enroll in High School and College
When Kaitlin Smith, a freshman at Everest High School, learned that she could take college courses during the day on her high school campus through collaboration with Everest Academy, she was excited for the opportunity, but intimidated by the unknown.
“I must admit that I was scared initially. I thought the classes may be too hard for me and that I wouldn’t make any friends,” said Smith.
To her surprise, the rigor of the classes challenged her and prepared her with the necessary tools to be successful in all of her classes. “It’s been a great experience. I have new friends and a stronger confidence in my ability to take tough classes.”

Everest Academy Provides Visual and Performing Arts Courses and Programs
The Everest Academy offers an array of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) courses and programs from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. This includes rigorous instruction during the day in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and media arts.
The arts, according to The Every Student Succeeds Act, are core curriculum and a necessary part of a well-rounded education to equip students as broadly literate – including arts literate global creative citizens. The creative economy, directly and indirectly, is the third largest in the state of California.
Everest Academy is a direct pipeline into these college and career opportunities and the city itself is rich in fine, industrial, and design arts, a context in which to develop the skills and capacities necessary to participate in the creative industries.
